What's the difference between enamel and photoscreen pins?

Enamel pins are die-struck from a metal base and filled with colored enamel, creating a textured, dimensional design with defined metal lines separating each color. Photoscreen (or offset-printed) pins are made by printing a high-resolution, full-color image onto a metal base and coating it with a clear epoxy for protection. They are thinner, lighter, and have a smooth, flat surface.

Which type of pin is best for complex designs?

Photoscreen pins are the best choice for designs with intricate details, gradients, or photographs because they can capture and reproduce the digital artwork exactly. Enamel pins, which are filled in by hand, are better suited for designs with distinct color separation and clean lines.

What is the cost and turnaround time for each?

Photoscreen pins are the more economical option and can be produced much faster, making them ideal for rush orders or large-scale events. The meticulous, hand-filled process of creating enamel pins is more time-consuming, resulting in a higher cost and longer production time, typically between 3-4 weeks.

When to choose enamel over photoscreen?

Choose enamel for a high-end, high-quality, and more collectible feel. Choose photoscreen pins for designs with complex details, gradients, or photographs, or if you have a smaller budget and a quicker deadline.

Can you add special effects to both soft and hard enamel pins?

We offer glitter, glow-in-the-dark, UV and screen printing, transparent enamel, cut-outs, and more! To have a full list of special features you can add or adjust on your pin, contact us design through our form and put your request in the comments section.

While most effects can be applied to both, many are better suited for soft enamel.
